A cake with a present inside?!

Bonne Annee mes Amis!

We were more than happy to celebrate Epiphanie yesterday with the traditional “Galette Des Rois”. It is an amazing little cake made out of puff pastry, almond and butter. Patisseries offer this cake from around Christmas to the end of January. The actual day to celebrate with it (traditionally) is on January 6th. The really cute thing is that a little favor is baked into the cake. The person to find it is King for the day and has good luck.

We stumbled across the most delicious discovery last night (slight pause as I take another bite). We decided to take a drive over to Saint-Germain-En-Laye and have a walk around. Love the downtown. Reminds me of a little Paris. Strung across the streets, were twinkling boughs of lights enchanting the cobblestone below. Tons of great shops and little streets to walk around. With the mist and the snuggle up and window shopping it all proved to be a romantic evening. We happened upon several bakeries. At one in particular we took a little more interest, a charming woman passing us said that it was “truly a wonderful bakery” and that “it would be a pleasure to try”. When someone takes the time to tell me this, its worth the investigation.

Delightful. A charming woman helped us and we decided on 2 lovely mini “Galette Des Rois”, explaining that this year, I wanted both my husband and I to be “King”. She gave us two gold crowns to celebrate together. As we chatted we found that the bakery has been passed down from one generation to the next, and that just the previous night they had been on France1 (TV) in an interview showcasing their Galettes des rois. I think we could not have ended up with a better choice this year to celebrate. What a lovely family and delicious patisserie.
